Prosperity, vigorous growth and happiness is how I would describe thriving. It can be different person to person, but I believe that it's something we all want. It can be a difficult journey though, especially if you have no direction. Priorities help give us that direction in life. Unfortunately, a lot of us don't even stop to think about what is important. Even those who do think about what their priorities should be, never assess if they are really prioritizing their priorities.
1. Assess your priorities
Ask yourself what's most important to you. I would recommend by starting with your top three priorities. If these don't come to you immediately, I would really recommend placing a priority in each of these three categories. The People you care about, Career Aspirations, and something bigger than yourself! We need connections with others. If you’re in a bad place with the people you care about then they may not be a priority to you or you may not be a priority to them. Career Aspirations is one I find a lot of people either over value or under value. If you’re in a position like most and have to work almost a third of your life to support yourself and your family, why would this not be a priority! Just keep in mind what else is important to you as well. Having something in your life that is bigger than you has many benefits. It can encourage you and make you a kinder & wiser person. To me it's the breath of hope.
2. Determine your priorities
Once you have an idea of what you want to priorities to be, determine what your priorities actually are. Priorities are where you’re Time, Energy & Wealth goes. For example, if you say your family is your number one priority, but only see them on the weekend when you’re not working & even then you don't have the energy to engage them or for thought spend your wealth to invest into their wellbeing... they aren't really a priority.
Priorities need all three components as well, to really flourish. You can give your time to your work, but don't invest into how you’re going to get there on time or work towards progression for example; chances are you’re not going to be happy or fulfilled working there anyway. Keep in mind there's a lot of different ways you can invest your time, energy, and wealth. If you’re not investing these resources into what you want your priorities to be, it's time to make a plan!
3. Make a plan & implement it
The next step needs to be realistic. Sometimes you can't just jump and make all the changes you need to overnight. To do this I would recommend setting goals, which you can read in more detail by clicking in the hyperlink. You have to be S.M.A.R.T though. Have a plan that is Specific, Measured, Achievable, Realistic, and Time oriented. Biting off more than one can chew, is the quickest way to failure. The structure will build habit & the habit will help drive consistent results.
